Ava Darnell is 12 years old and has been studying music with Metro Music Makers for a year and a half. Her instructor Grace Mason recently interviewed her for our Student Spotlight series.
What instruments are you learning, and how long have you been studying them?
I’ve been studying piano, ukulele and voice for a year and a half with Metro Music Makers.
Why did you choose that instrument?
What kind of music do you like to listen to? Who’s your favorite band or musician?
I really love worship music, jazz, Coldplay, One Republic and musicals.
What do you love about music?
I like how it makes me feel. It helps me relax and express myself. It sets the mood.
What do you like to do when you’re not playing music?
I love to paint and spend time outside with my sisters.
Do you play any sports or do any other activities outside of music lessons?
I love to run and play basketball.
What’s your proudest accomplishment so far in life?
Singing on stage with my dad at North Point Community Church.
What’s your favorite movie or TV show?
I love Little Women.
What’s your favorite food or candy?
My favorite food is queso—you just can’t go wrong with queso. And I love sour gummy worms.
What’s your favorite subject in school?
I like history.
If you were going to be on a reality TV show, would you rather be on American Idol, The Voice, or America’s Got Talent? Why?
American Idol because I would love to meet all of the judges!
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be an architect or a producer of musicals.
What else would you like to tell us about yourself?
I just began composing my own original songs in December and have loved writing and sharing my music with others! And I really love dogs!
