Eleven-year-old Amelia is studying guitar with senior instructor Mark Grundhoefer, and piano with senior instructor Chelsea Sefzik. After Amelia recently won Metro Music Maker’s first Spirit Week songwriting contest with her song, “Go Team,” Mark interviewed the budding young songwriter.
Why did you choose to study guitar?
“It’s good accompaniment for songs, and you can use it to have a music career.”
What kind of music do you like to listen to? Who’s your favorite band or musician?
“I like techno/dance, especially Alan Walker.”
What do you love about music?
“You can learn new things. And it’s a fun way to express yourself.”
What do you like to do when you’re not playing music?
“I like to write stories, and I run a successful custom pencil box business: “Amelia’s Pencil Boxes.”
Do you play any sports or do any other activities outside of music lessons?
“Soccer club, ballet, book team and musical theater.”
What’s your proudest accomplishment so far in life?
“Being cast as Jasmine in Aladdin KIDS.”
What’s your favorite TV show or movie?
“My Little Pony and The Amazing World of Gumball.”
What’s your favorite food? Favorite candy?
“I love spaghetti with garlic bread and anything chocolate.”
What’s your favorite subject in school?
“Science.”
If you were going to be on a reality TV show, would you rather be on American Idol, The Voice, or America’s Got Talent? Why?
“The Voice, because Kelly Clarkson, duh!”
What do you want to be when you grow up?
“I want to be an actress and a singer-songwriter.”
