Eight year old Janaki Udayarajan has been playing piano for nearly half her young life, as she began at the age of five. Her teacher Michael Pagel sat down with her to ask her a few questions about her music and her life.
Why did you choose to learn piano?
“I like getting to make up songs.”
What kind of music do you like to listen to? Who’s your favorite band or musician?
“I don’t really know many bands, but I like the band in the Minions movie. Maybe the Beatles? I like to listen to jazz.”
What do you love about music?
“I love singing and trying to copy songs that I hear.”
What do you like to do when you’re not playing music?
“I like to read Harry Potter.”
Do you play any sports or do any other activities outside of music lessons?
“I do karate and swimming. I also like to do outside gymnastics.”
What’s your proudest accomplishment so far in life?
“I think finishing the big Harry Potter books and passing my school tests. And getting superior two times at the Federation festival.”
What’s your favorite TV show or movie?
“The Meg.”
What’s your favorite food? Favorite candy?
“My favorite candy is Twix, and my favorite food is pasta.”
What’s your favorite subject in school?
“Science.”
What do you want to be when you grow up?
“An astronomer.”
What else would you like to tell us about yourself?
“I like piano a lot!”
